Hong Kong Day 1

We took a 16 hr arctic flight to HK on Air Canada. The food was alright for AC food - a decent gravlax + potato salad, pork-on-ish rice, and ice cream for the first meal, sweet and sour fish on rice for the second meal. They gave cup noodles and veggie sandwiches in between.

Got into HK at around 3:30pm local time. We went to dinner at Crystal Jade in Times Square for some Shanghai style grub: chili oil beef noodle soup (hong yau ngau yook lai mein), some pressed ham cubes (don't remember what this was called), "Beijing"-style water dumplings (buk ging sui gau), and some Napa cabbage (siu choy). The noodles were yummy, spicy but not uncomfortably so. The dumplings were soft and juicy and the ham cubes were pretty tasty. Cabbage was standard. The servings were a bit smaller than what we are used to in Canada (e.g. an order of soup-filled dumplings "siu loong bao" is 4 dumplings) except for the noodles, which were HUGE. We also had a good longan and asian pear hot drink, and dessert was this rice in wine soup. I really liked the taste of the dessert, but would have liked a bit more rice in there to thicken it up. Sorry, no pictures for this restaurant. We hadn't slept for a long time so we forgot.

Maybe some links later when I get a converter for the AC adaptor.
